Cal Water tests water at the source and in the distribution system, but does not perform tests of water in customers’ homes. However, such tests can be useful, particularly if you are concerned about health problems caused by your home plumbing or similar issues. If you have a concern about your home water, you can contact an accredited lab for information on home water testing.
You should check a lab’s accreditation status before using it. Also, not all labs are certified for all constituents of interest, so you should ask to see if they are ELAP-certified for the analysis requested before ordering a test.
A current list of accredited laboratories can be viewed on the State Water Resources Control Board’s interactive map.
