General Information

Cal Water has provided high-quality water utility services in the Salinas area since 1962. At Cal Water, we are committed to supplying you, our valued customer, with a reliable water supply that meets all water quality standards.

Buena Vista

The Buena Vista system was purchased by Cal Water in November 2007. Since then, we have been working hard to improve the reliability of your water system. We have installed over 1,800 feet of 12-inch main to connect your water system to our Salinas Hills system in order to provide an emergency backup supply. In 2009, we will install approximately 6,900 feet of new water main in Pine Canyon Road. We have replaced two storage tanks and added four 8,000-gallon storage tanks. In 2009, we will install an additional booster pump, procure land for an additional storage tank, and resolve pressure issues in the system. We appreciate your patience as we continue to make necessary improvements.

Country Meadows

Our Country Meadows customers receive groundwater produced by two wells and delivered through a distribution system that includes five storage tanks.

Foothill Estates

All of our Foothill Estates customers receive groundwater produced by two wells and delivered through a distribution system that includes five storage tanks.

Las Lomas

Our Las Lomas customers receive groundwater produced by two wells and delivered through a distribution system that includes two storage tanks. We have installed an additional emergency generator to increase water reliability, and in 2009, we will begin to construct an iron- and manganese-removal plant at a well that is not being used (iron and manganese can cause water to appear discolored). This will allow us to add more reliable, high-quality water to the system. Additionally, we replaced approximately 5,000 feet of water main in 2008, and we plan to replace another 3,000 feet in 2009.

Oak Hills

Our Oak Hills customers receive groundwater produced by two wells and delivered through a distribution system that includes two storage tanks. In 2009, we will be doing some major upgrades at one of the wells, including installation of a new electrical panel board and an on-site generator that can run the well in case of electricity outage. In 2009, we are also planning to construct a new well to replace a well that has been removed from service.

Salinas

Our customers receive groundwater produced by 30 wells and delivered through a distribution system that includes two storage tanks and 300 miles of pipeline. Over the past year, we constructed four new wells and anticipate having two of them operational in 2009. We installed a one-million-gallon storage tank, and we plan on constructing another new well and installing an additional 1.5-million-gallon storage tank.

Our greatest water quality challenges in and around the Salinas area are nitrate levels, MTBE, and seawater intrusion. We are working closely with the State Regional Water Quality Control Board and Monterey County Water Resources Agency to address these issues.

Salinas Hills

Our Salinas Hills customers receive groundwater produced by six wells with five booster pumps and delivered through a distribution system that includes six storage tanks.
