General Information
Cal Water's Bakersfield District was formed in 1927 with the purchase of Bakersfield Water Works. The City of Bakersfield, with the assistance of Cal Water, proactively maintains and upgrades its facilities to ensure a reliable, high-quality supply. For example, pre-design planning for the South Bakersfield Treatment Plant is underway. This new plant will augment supply in the southern portion of Bakersfield and provide our customers insulation against drought.
Bakersfield
To meet our customers' needs, we use a combination of local groundwater produced by 84 wells (treated where necessary so that it complies with standards) and surface water from the Kern River (treated with highly advanced membrane filtration), as well as water purchased from the Kern County Water Agency.

City of Bakersfield
To meet our customers' needs, we use local groundwater produced by 65 wells (with 6 more beginning operation in 2009) and surface water from the Kern River that is treated with highly advanced membrane filtration.

North Garden
To meet our customers' needs, we use local groundwater produced by 14 local wells and surface water from the Kern River treated with highly advanced membrane filtration.
Tejon-Castac
Cal Water began providing high-quality water utility services to the Tejon-Castac Water District in 2005. We meet the water supply needs of our valued Tejon-Castac Water District customers using a state-of-the-art microfiltration plant that treats water from the California Aqueduct.
Currently, Cal Water and the Tejon-Castac Water District are working together to improve water quality by adding another stage of filtration, which will reduce byproducts that form during disinfection. We are also making pipeline modifications and operational changes (such as frequently refilling the storage tank and flushing) to improve water quality.
